SCOTT’S STORY

Hi. My name is Scott, and I’m a bundle of contractions.

I’m a former wanna-be indie rocker turned corporate sell-out.

I’m a two-time college dropout turned top 10 MBA graduate.

I’m a creative marketer who also happens to appreciate an expertly-crafted spreadsheet.

I’m a big-picture strategic thinker who’s borderline OCD about the tiniest details.

And I’m the guy who spent the last 10 years of his life working for big businesses only to turn around and become a small business owner.

And so Inspire Business Concepts was born.

WORK EXPERIENCE

The first job that I held for longer than a couple of months was as a barista for Starbucks. I was your typical college-student-slash-aspiring-rock-star, spending my days slinging lattes part-time between classes and gigs. I eventually ran out of money to pay for school, so my part-time job became my full-time job and I got my first dose of business management experience.

I learned a lot about leadership, teamwork, and retail and restaurant management at Starbucks. I managed staffing, inventories, and my own P&L. But after four years of coming home at midnight smelling like coffee and burnt milk, I started dreaming of a typical nine to five job where I didn’t have to scrub mocha syrup out of my hair at the end of the day.

Through nothing short of a miracle, I ended up landing an entry-level job at Vanguard, the country’s largest mutual fund firm. At the time, I still hadn’t finished up my undergraduate degree, and I had no idea what a mutual fund even was. But by the end of my six year stint at Vanguard, I had completed my undergrad, earned my MBA, and secured a total of eight distinct roles in four different business units.

Though my education and past work experience have taught me a lot, I’m still learning new things every day about business and most importantly, about myself.

PERSONAL STUFF

When I’m not working, I enjoy taking walks with my wife (Monica), my son (Lucas), and my chocolate lab (Charleston).

I also like mountain biking, playing the guitar, and audio engineering.

Ryan’s trying to teach me how to swing a golf club – with little success.
